wow, I have had to do this quite a bit, because of all the stupid pre -req requirements for my major
Just keep in mind why you are there, what the goal is, and remember that class takes you one step closer
you dont have to be interested, just do your best.

I do this with work everyday. Set yourself little mini tasks nothing to small and nothing too big which have a connection with the subject, like reading ten pages of a book, or remebering the key issues but do it like a game and if you get it right or complete the task reward yourself and before you know it you will start to find it interesting because you have built up a little reward type scheme for yourself.

You open your mind and find a way to relate it to something you feel, think, believe, or enjoy. Or if you like to be derogatory, find the argument against it?

I have ADD so I have to play these games to be able to actually finish anything... Everything is a chore for me to get through even when it is interesting. I actually function most of the time in a xstate of doing ten things at once just to be able to sort my thought process. I think, like a camera shutters... Have you ever been tested, maybe you have some of the same tendencies?

Im actually , right now, as we speak, reading a magazine and eating pizza too... Not that your question is boring or anything...

I am a teacher, and I know that it can be difficult motivating students, who just aren't interested in Mathematics, to practice and work on their sums. I can tell them to think of the exams or of their future, but...

Instead of doing that, I motivate by getting them to derive Maths formulae and concepts.

E.g. Before I teach about the sum of interior angles of a polygon is (n-2)x180 degrees, I draw out polygons of various sides, get students to measure the angles within it and then tell them the answer to see if their measurements are accurate. We then "discover" the formula together by drawing lines into the polygon to form triangles.

Similarly, if your teacher merely feeds formulae to you and expects you to do the problems, it can get boring. Instead, try to derive the formula yourself or look up the internet for how it is derived.

The outcome would be that your interest in Maths will be enhanced, and secondly, your teacher would be most impressed!

Good luck!

See it as a challenge, get on with it - and win! It's the only way to motivate yourself. You could also divide the learning process into stages and make yourself a present each time you pass a stage!

Picture your future.

When you study hard now, you have a bright future and more opportunities awaiting for you.

When you choose not to study, you basically will lose out to everybody. Your future is not guaranteed.

Understand the subject, appreciate whatever you learnt form it.

Treat it as a challenge to you. Once you successfully conquer it, you are on your way to success!

well, this might sound silly, but keep studying till you DO find it interesting. I always found that things I found difficult to do or thigs I didn't know much about were the things I found most difficult to study for. But as I got better at them, or began to learn more about them, I began to find it very interesting!

Good luck

I motivate myself by telling myself how much money I'll make afterwards if I do well in school. =)

And for math, well...I just liked to be good at it so I could be nerdy about it. It takes a special kind of person to know and retain math skills.
