It's the MTV.
Big money=sticking with what sells=generic crap.
The only good bands are going to be heard on free form college radio and in downtown clubs.
Turn off the TV and turn on the radio, free form.

Several reasons.
First: Mtv killed the radio star by making looks more important than the actual music being played. That's why you have your pop divas like Britney.
Second: Sales, sales, sales. The music industry won't try a lot of new formulas. Downloading has killed sales, so quick production, (less money spent on studio time), and sound-a-like bands, (hey that group sold and they sound just like them so they'll sell too), has made everything sound repeititious.
Third: The public. Downloads. Bands have a tough time making money because no one buys their albums. No money, no studio time, no major contracts, only word of mouth. Some of the best music out there we'll never hear because no major industry will afford to give them promotion.

It is because when a band gets popular everyone hires the same producer to get that sound. Just look at all the albums Chad Kilger from Nickleback has produced or written for since they hit it and they all sound like Knickleback. From Tommy Knickleback lee to Theory of a DeadKnickleback to Default Knickleback..

The music companies cater to the LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR (in other words, the PEOPLE who listen are to blame).
If they didn't buy it...then they wouldn't sell it.
