i dont... but its done on a daily basis and not just based on sexuality...its religion, age, race, if you smoke or not, what you do for a living

to some people it helps to give them a sense of confidence by saying "I'm this and I've over come it by becoming that"

but more times than not its society that likes to define a person rather than the person saying that

First, we don't just define ourselves by sexual preference. We also define ourselves by religion, color and sometimes food preferences. For instance, I am a white, carnivorous, lesbian witch. But if the question is about sexuality or maybe I'm only looking for love right now, do you need to know I eat meat?
Second, we all want to be around like minded individuals. Titles that everyone is familiar with is so much easier than explaining exactly what I believe in.
If someone is asking about sexual preferences, they are probably hitting on you. Saying "I'm not looking right now." or "I am not interested in your gender" is much easier than ranting about how you don't feel like a human being.

Redbra, most people don't define themselves just by their sexuality. However, internally, sooner or later we all have to face the fact as to just what sexual orientation we really are. Even if it is just a sort of a self-knowledge type admission, it is very liberating. If you can come out to even just one close, trusted friend, that is a double blessing.

Some do some don't. Shouldn't it be up to each person how they define themselves? I personally think trying to seperate people from their sexuality is a ridiculous concept as our sexuality is as much a part of what makes you you as your sense of humor.

sexuality defines who you want to be with, where you live, what friends you want, etc. everyday life includes sexuality! str8 people are unaware of this because they live in a str8 world every day. gay people have to struggle everyday in a world that is not theirs. imagine putting a straight guy in a gay ghetto for a few months, forced to go to gay bars and talk about plays and theater and style and madonna. he'd become despondent!

so basically your sexuality defines alot about your personality and what world you want to live in!

Our society has determined that to be the case. In Europe they are more inclined to be accepting and not so judgmental towards sexuality. America is pretty judgemental and rigid. I don't think in my lifetime different sexuality will ever be totally respected.

In magical fantasy land, yes. Here, at least in the USA, where we sell sex as the yellow brick road to happiness, not as of yet. All revolutions are started by one person and one idea. Don't give up.

I don't believe that most of us do...others define us by our sexuality. Until such time that Gay is just one of the options, nothing will change. Good luck

That's a good question. I guess we want people to know our preferences, so that if they are attracted to us, they know whether or not we might be attracted to them. But past that, you are right. For most people, sex is such a small part of who we are and what we do.

For most people sex is the only thing they ever talk about
