Uhmmm - for ordinary folks, absolutely nothing. Except to watch celebreties rub elbows and ham for the paparazi.
The designers, make their money, from potential investors like for example say Sears or JC Penny (whose representatives attend these shows) should be interested, in the designers wares & talent. Later these representatives will negotiate with the designer to "design" a line of clothes Just for their store. So that retailer will have an Exclusive Line of Fashions for their customers (you or me). The designer gets a poop load of profit along with their fees for the designs they make for the investor.
Its the publicity of these shows, that motivate you and me (maybe) to later go to a specific retail merchant/store to buy these Exclusive Fashions. Obviously they won't look anything like what you saw on the Catwalk. Because the retail clothes will be designed to accommodate people with different sizes. These patterns are going to be as easily made as possible to expidite their manufacture and for the least cost. So the Retailer can make the most profit - IF their exclusive line of fashions becomes popular.
The only people who can afford to have the Designer design clothes for them, are the celebrities and individuals with a lot of expendable cash.
Does that answer your question sweetie?
cheers!!

The point of runway shows is to make a statement. The clothes are not made to be "ready to wear". The idea of runway shows is shock value. But then the designers take the looks from the runway and tone them WAY down and then sell them to the public.

Those types of fashion shows you are talking about are the coture line. Designers have a separate, ready-to-wear line that goes to stores. Coture is generally for the runway only. Although some stars snag a few coture items for walking the red carpet (see any of Cher's outfits at the Oscars). The money is made in the buzz generated from these shows that they hope translates into sales of their ready to wear lines.

confident, and no. Yest they placed on guy or woman peices and outfits from the shows, yet no, no longer the comparable way the products are supplied interior the shows. The peices would be extremely adapted from the runway garment to greater healthful and healthful the shopper and the keep the place the garment is offered. additionally, maximum human beings do no longer waer the garment with all the upload-ons, makeup, hairdos and wigs and different theatrical additions stumbled on interior the runway tutor. while viewing a tutor, maximum retailers and purchasers seem previous the theatrics to the clothing themselves, in the event that they are wearable, adaptable to the actual worldwide, and in the event that they are unique and wrthy of their value ticket. no one wears the ridiculous make up or hairstyles, or a minimum of they could desire to no longer. the numerous greater outlandish rumway shows, consisting of Victor and Rolf's Stagelight tutor can backfire and extremely harm the enterprise. The stagelight series they supplied angered the variety press and alienated their purchasers. numerous years in the past a clothier accessorized his fashions with islamic inspired veils and offered no longer a single garment from the tutor and immediately went out of enterprise. There are numerous designers who placed on outlandish shows, generate a extensive buzz and extremely almost on no account sell any of the clothing from the tutor and for this reason vanish after some money dropping years.

Clothes on the runway will be toned down for the general public. It gives major clothing chains i.e. gap, hollister, banana... a chance to see what is going to be hot. They also get inspiration from these fashion shows.
If you've ever watched the movie Devil Wears Prada there's this scene where Meryl Streep's character breaks it down gently for you.

often they make it from custom made clothes for people, who contact the designer because of the runway clothes. It's like advertising for them. Sometimes certain "high society" people will wear them (Bjork and the dead swan dress for example) but that's the exception. OTOH how many 5-10 thousand dollar dress do you have to sell to make money.

Those shows are just to showcase the designers talents. If you see something you like it is usually released on a toned down scale for the public. Much of the fashions depend on the region they are showing them in (Exp.. London, Paris etc...)
