The younger you are the more selfish you are ... the ego is there to make sure you get enough milk from the teat.... but as you grow up you will hopefully become part of the collective (unless you are a right tit )

Personally I think it is both. But I think society has a bigger effect on our selfishness.

I think we are by nature both selfish and generous. Which trait comes to dominate is due to what we learn when we are small.
