When i was in Germany the Air Force stopped useing pennies in the BX ( too expensive to mess with) No one seemed to mind......

I do, also the dollar bill too. Like someone mentioned, Military Exchanges overseas do not use pennies, it costs more to transport and handle them, than what it's worth and they cost more than a penny to make and are worth more than a penny in copper after they are made. It does not make sense to have them. Rounding up or down is done in a lot of other countries that have discontinued their version of the penny. BTW, rounding up or down has no bearing on the percentage of sales tax. It will come down to what you owe. If you owe a $1.99, you'll just leave your penny and pay two bucks, if you owe $1.96, you'll get a nickel back. But someone will make a big deal of it and a big scene demanding their penny back. Personally, I think that the penny and dollar bill should go and start using the dollar coin.

Not me. If we get rid of the penny then Governments and big business will round everything up ie. More Taxes. 10 % instead of 7% etc.

How about cash in general being a thing of the past? When is the last time you paid for something that you absolutely needed to have cash for. Think of the illegal activity that would grind to a hault if cash was done away with.
