It helps if you know the word roots in addition to memorizing the conversion chart. The prefixes "milli-" and "kilo-" mean "thousand"; the prefix "centi-" means hundred (think "century"). So, there are 1000 milliliters in a liter, 100 centigrams in a gram, 1000 millimeters in a meter, and you do the math on how many millimeters in a kilometer (1000 x 1000). The British/American measurement system is less logical because it is a duodecimal system, based on 12 instead of 10. So, 12 inches in a foot, 3 feet in a yard.

1000 milliliter (mL) = 1 Liter (L)
100 centigram (cg) = 1 gram (g)
1000 millimeters (mm) = 1 meter (m)
36 inches (in) = 1 yard (yrd)
1,000,000 millimeters (mm) = 1 kilometer (km)
(Trust my answers. I checked and rechecked them.)

you need a good conversion cheat sheet....it can be confusing. 1000 ml = 1L. You need to learn how to just move the decimal point to get the conversion, that's easiest. It's harder for Americans because we have learned metric secondarily...good luck!
