inertia of motion.. the law of inertia is from Newton's first law of motion--every body remains in a state of rest or continuous motion, in a straight line, until/unless it is acted upon by an external force---from this the law of inertia arises;every body tends to be in a state of rest or motion.

c. the law of inertia applies to this, "a body at rest will remain at rest or if moving continues to move with uniform velocity unless acted upon by an external force".........the car will continue moving for a short period after the brakes are applied because initially it was travelling in a path....upon applying the brakes, the motion of the vehicle is altered by the retarding force but a negligible amount of movement will occur just before the car comes to rest or stops.....

The law of inertia in each case: it is the tendency of all things to maintain motion in a straight line.
