Do NOT use a microwave. Not only will the rat explode but it can cause hot spots in the middle of the rat and hurt your snake. The best way to thaw them is to put them in a Ziploc bag and put the bag in a pot of hot water. Not boiling water. As hot as you can get if from the tap. A rat might take 15 minutes or longer to thaw depending on the size. When it feels soft and warm all the way through with not cold spots it's done.

DO NOT MICROWAVE IT!! No matter what setting you have it at... you do not want to be cleaning half-cooked mouse guts out of your microwave. I've always taken a bowl of hot (but not scalding hot) water and dumped the rat in a waterproof plastic bag, dumped it in the water, and waited anywhere from 30 mintes to a couple hours. Depending on the size of the rat you may need to change the water because it will cool off quickly. I generally wait until it's not only thawed, but also fairly warm to the touch, since snakes are used to warm prey anyway.

The safest and best way to thaw the rat is to put in a plastic bag and allow it to defrost in the refrigerator. It will take about 24 hrs to do this . or at least over knight. Than bring the rat to room temp. prior to feeding to snake.

Microwave a bowl of water for about two minutes. Put the mouse in a plastic baggie and then put it in the water (so that it's submerged in the heat, but not getting wet). It will take a few minutes to thaw, but if you can squeeze the mouse's belly without feeling cold, it's ready.

That's how I feed my snake. :)

Put it in a bag in your fridge and let it thaw that way. After it thaws, or when it's close to being thawed, nuke it for 20 seconds and then let sit on a counter for 1 minute. Quite a few snakes will eat them at room temperature. As long as you have a basking spot in your cage, the snake should not get too cold from eating a cool to cold rat.

DO NOT MICROWAVE! YOU COULD SERIOUSLY BURN YOUR SNAKES MOUTH AND INSIDES! You rinse it in warm or hot water. Do not microwave ever! The microwave can heat it unevenly and even burn your snake! If you have to ask on the internet how to thaw a rat, then you should probably just go back to live.

i used to thaw mine in warm water, not hot as this will cook the rats insides and could harm your snake

I would get a bowl of hot water and let it thaw out in there. Get the water hot enough and let the rat stay in there long enough to get hot for the sanke.

Pehaps the best way is to put it under running water until it thaws out.
