Why when they fly in a V shaped pattern does one side of the V longer than the other side?

They're finding the choice fields to eat grain then it's off to warmer climates. I think they are the intelligent species of this world!!! LOL

actually our geese here
(monterey, CA, USA), stay here all year round.
they are actually kind of annoying because they destroy the paks by crapping everywhere.
