The only way I can clean myself is by using water. If I use paper it starts itching. If it itches then when I run or walk it itches as well and it bothers a lot. Do I need to see a dermatologist. I have been cleaning with water for over 6 months and cant get back to using toillet paper.

Try unsented baby wipes. They are moist and contain nothing that would irratate the area. I would also see a doctor about the condition asap. Good Luck ! :)

Here's one you probably haven't heard before but for the past 4 1/2 years I've been suffering from this condition. I'll be blunt. The area around my anus is inflamed and the skin is thinned out. As a result I am always uncomfortable and 50% of the time I have a bowel movement it bleeds. In addition to my regular dermatologist I've seen at least six others. My personal dermatologist thinks it likely is psoriasis but can't say for sure. We've tried everything including diflucan, anti-depressants, as well as just about every medicine you can think of. I haven't used a cortisone for 4 years so you can rule that out as a contributing factor. Currently I'm using just Aquaphor. This problem might not sound like a big deal to someone else but it prevents me from exercising so it impacts my physical health. In addition because I'm always sore it makes me cranky most of the time and I'm not my normal self. In the past doctors simply put some Gentian Violet on it and it would clear up in a few days. Not so anymore. Incidentally I've seen a proctologist and everything is normal as far as my bowels go except that this irritation extends about 1/2 to 1 inch inward. My diet consists of lots of fiber and plenty of water. I would appreciate any suggestions regardless of how unconventional they may sound. Or at least point me in a direction where I might look for some answers. ANYTHING. I am a 50 year old heterosexual male. Help. Thanks.

The itching may be due to psoriasis as the other answerer suggests, or some other manifestation of the candida (yeast) fungus that is in our intestines to help us digest food.

Try an antifungal ointment or powder around the area. If that stops the itching, then check out yeast at www.hufa.org to see what you can do on a more long-term basis.

Get Preparation H cream or suppositories. That will take care of the itching.

You might have some infection or parasitic infestation. See your doctor to do a stool sample, and if you have worms, they can give you something to purge them.

Once a week, it's not a bad idea to use a syringe or enema bag, to give your anal area a thorough cleansing, with warm water and antiseptic soap or dish detergent.

Have you tried different brands of TP? Try ultra-soft brands with no lint and no scents. Maybe put cold water on the TP too. Also, the skin may be very dry. Try putting a little UNSCENTED body lotion on it, maybe something with Aloe Vera. Or keep using the water, but afterwards put lotion on it... see if the problem clears up in a while. Good luck!

Use baby wipes unscented. I would recommend seeing a Gastroenterologist, a specialist of the GI tract Colon. Good Luck

Try using baby wipes (don't laugh... they clean thoroughly and most are hypoallergenic, but get the ones that say "hypoallergenic" or "unscented".) You can get travel size packages of them to carry with you or put a few into a ziploc sandwich bag and stick them in your pocket.

IF you do try to use toilet paper, make sure you get only the type that's labeled "fragrance-free" or "hypoallergenic" or "unscented." A lot of people are allergic to the fragrances they put in toilet paper.

Use baby wipes and get something for hemorrhoids to ease the itching.

It sounds like you likely have hemorrhoids, or some anal infection. Washing with soapy water is actually BETTER for you, than mushing sh*it into your skin.

Preparation H, or some doctor--prescribed hemmorhoid cream or suppository, will relieve the itching, and help keep the anal area healthy.
