The Israelis were fighting Hezbollah. The Hezbollah are very prodominant in southern Lebanon. The Hezbollah is a terriorist group fronted and backed by Iran. They became popular with the Lebanese people because they have created a welfare system in souther Lebanon and built schools and hospitals and give out grants. They are doing more for theLebanese people than the govt.
But they are considered a terrorist organization that has claimed responsibility for bombing around the world and has vowed to destroy and wipe Israel off the earth.

Both Israel and Lebanon lost...the ones who won are Hezbollah...but unfortunately the ones who had to pay a big price were the Lebanese...
And since Israel said it wants to destroy Hezbollah and to get their soldiers back and none of those goals were achieved,Israel definitely lost...Now,it seems that Israel is going to negotiate with Hezbollah the release of the soldiers in exchange with the release of some Lebanese held in Israeli prisons...So ,in the end Israel gets nothing and Hezbollah gets exactly what it wants...

He who thinks that this war was against Hizbollah is wrong. If so, why did Israel strafed the innocent civilians???
But Hizbollah or call it Lebanon won the war. Because hizbollah killed more than 400 soldiers and destroyed more than 150 tanks and the only thing that Israel achieved is killing and massacring women and children in Qana and others. Take it from me Israel lost the war, I heard the Israelis crying in their settlements near my house in Palestine!!

well there are no real winner or losers in a war, only losers...but to answer your question, I don't think that war is over yet just "paused"
The ones that fight it may be "winners", but what about the people who see their houses...and lives destroyed??? In a war, we're all losers

no body yet... that was only a cease fire to try to work things out... the fact that there are no bombs exploding does not mean there is not a war. the US is at war and do you see any bombs being detonated in our soil. and believe me with Condoleeza sticking her spoon in it, that war will continue at any moments notice..
