You would be surprised how thankless people really are. Although, most people don't realize that we as servers make less than minimum wage, they are quick to assume that we are loaded with all the undeclared income!!!!! Unfortunately, people have no idea just how hard it is to make a living the way we do, or just how physically demanding the job is. Try to give the benefit of the doubt and keep your head up. The right restaurant is what you need. And all others should realize that we are their SERVERS not their SERVANTS!!!!!!!!!

I have been a server for about 20 yrs now and I know that the good tippers make up for the bad ones!
I would never confront a customer about a bad tip because I like the place that I work, ya know?
I might give the customer a sarcastic/puzzled thank-you(?) on their way out, but it's all in the timing!!
I also live in a tourist area and alot of those tourists know they will never see you again and they just don't care.
Take the good w/ the bad and ALL w/ a grain of salt....so to speak.

Yes I have a clue how to tip. Do you know how to EARN one? WHY do I or others have to make sure you have enough money in your pocket? Quit your belly aching! Find a job that pays you what you think your worth. I imagine you just like the undeclared income. (I am sure you declare all your tips?) The only people who think tipping is absolutely mandatory regardless of service, are those who work or worked in the food service industry. I will tip my server well ONLY if I think they deserve it. Just try and mention to me that my tip was less than appropriate! See how much you will get next time. ZERO, ZIP, ZILCH, NADA. I will ensure your boss knows why I will not recommend their establishment to others in the future. Yup, I am sure you as a $2.13 per hr + tips employee can explain that one.

I feel if you can't afford to leave a nice tip to a good server (bad ones get nothing) then you shouldn't be eating out!

I choose to eat at home (except when traveling) not because of tipping but because I have seen the kitchens of alot of restaurants which pretty much would cure anyone from wanting to eat out!

A friend of mine was working the graveyard shift at a Country Kitchen while putting herself through college. She would always mention that she was going to college and was just doing this to pay the bills and got chit-chatty with them. Her tips were unbelievable! One single older man even left her $100!

Well to most ppl, a 15% tip is still a bit of money. Just continue to offer the best service you can and maybe you can get a better place to wait tables.
