I used to have a hamster when I was a kid, I called it (Cheeky) because that was what he was, he used to climb right up my arm, and nuzzle into my neck to go asleep, he also was not afraid of anything, I could let him out even in the garden and he would come back to his cage... cheeky or wot...

I name mine after places. As both of my hamsters are/were Syrian, my old hamster was called Izra and my current hamster is Azaz, both are Syrian towns.
