We would be moving to a town with a similar industry (oil and gas), we have sent out some resumes for jobs we have found in papers and online, however have had no response. Is it a better idea to get settled there and then look for work? Or keep looking for work while we are here and still working until we find something?

My hubby is a Commercial Diver & we relocated from New England to Illinois about 15 years ago. First, he came out here as a freelance diver for a few months, came back east, & I came out here blindly to a rented house I had never seen or anything!!! That was quite never racking but I believed in him. Has your hubby looked down south in the gulf? There are jobs for pipefitters & rig workers but can you tolerate him being out on a rig for long amounts of time is the question. I get disgusted w/my hubs' job & sometimes call myself a "Diving Widow" but over the years I realized that if we did this move half assed; our marriage could have fallen apart. Don't get me wrong, we have our ups & downs just like any other couples but we do communicate. Only you 2 know what is right in your situation but TALK to each other !!!!! Keep looking for work; if he finds something & it is something you both want, you might try the 1 at a time deal like we did. You could find something 1st, too.............just make sure you BOTH agree upon your future.............it is your relationship nobody elses & THAT is what makes it through thick & thin. Hope this helps & you can contact me if you like & we can compare notes if you like!!! XOXOXO Good luck !!!

keep looking for jobs and filling out resumes before you move. Keep working where you are at until you find a job where you want to move. Contact job service or something like that.

No you should not move until you have jobs check monster jobs that's how my husband got his job. I speak from experience on this I have moved so many times and we always have a job lined up. I guess you could say my family are nomads we move alot because of work and we never move unless we have a job lined up.God Bless and Good Luck

I'd keep looking until you found what you were looking for.But if you all have been in the oilfied long you know it's always feast or famine. When it goes up it always eventually comes down.I've seen the best of them go out the door.

i develop into born and raised for 40 5 years in st. louis yet now stay in va. i envy you the bypass to the stl section. the previous poster had some large recommendations. except you need to stay there, stay out of the west county are. very overpriced for what you get. yet it really is the position i lived and that i might want to bypass again in a minute. be positive to visit the zoo, muny opera, cardinals, rams, butterfly abode, transportation museum, jewel container, artwork museum.

If you move and don't have jobs and still can't find any after you've moved, what would you do? You really should make sure you are gainfully employed first.
