I have the same problem. Having long, thick hair, I need a clip with claws which actually feel like they are doing the job. I've put a lot of experimenting into this and my conclusion...go to Superdrug and get one for 0.99p. Absolute bargain and top quality. You can even choose between black or brown! Another tip - don't go to Claires (even though they're prettier clips)- I've wasted so much money on their clips, you don't want to do they same.

Use a little hair gel in the area that you are going to put the clip then put the clip in the hair then stiffens up and stays in the hair and you don't have to buy expensive clips.

Goody now has a product line for people with thick hair and I've found these work better for me. Clips would just snap out of my hair, and every kind of barrette I've ever used would just break, but these new ones work for me quite well. You can get Goody products pretty much anywhere.
