The REAL answer is this:

There are scholarships (and sometimes even preferential admission standards) for students who are members of the first generation in their family to attend college.

So, if your parents did not go to college, you may qualify for some incentives to help you to be the first in your family to do so.

I benefited from a program of this sort as an undergraduate, and first-generation students at the university at which I currently teach do also.

I guess they need to ask some quastions even when it is kinda irrelevant. Someone is paid to design a form and come up questions.
