Because if there in bars and clubs there probably on the hunt ...your either classed as the hunted or your a hunter ,both make you very very insecure!
The longer they do this the meaner and more critical they get because either they have had a lot of rejections and need to be mean to hide the hurt or they have been hit on by every man with a pulse in which case they turn mean like an over petted dog...
just a thought!
ive always met nicer men in hardware store or in the fruit isle at the supermarket.

Fitboy, my guess is that what you are seeing is a lot of competition with each other. It may seem sensible that gay men should be sticking up for one another and supporting one another, but it is not always the case.
I think especially in a scene like a bar or club you might see this happening.

Maybe they're not comfortable with themselves. For example, I notice that some of the guys who are in full leather won't give the time of day to anybody who isn't wearing $2,000 worth of gear. Or sometimes the younger guys will shun the older guys, etc. I think people get too hung up on labels and they forget that we really should all get along.
Maybe it's similar to how gay men and lesbians sometimes do not get along. I wish these divisions would stop. Isn't there enough to think of with straights bashing us and telling us what we cannot do, without our own internal strife?
Or it could boil down to being shy and thinking that they might not be accepted, so people tend to stay with their own little circle.
What do you think it is about?

I would imagine it's for about the same reasons that humanity as a whole has a hard time respecting each other. People, in general, don't deal well with those who are different. This is where we get various "in-groups" and "out-groups" from which are the basis of nearly all discrimination.

Well,it happens everywhere you go, check it out in the restaurants, parks, concerts, malls, theatres, even in your neighborhood. So the answer is don't pay any attention otherwise it gives you more stress and what the heck, life is too short,Live and Let Live!. By the way,you can't control People,so try to stay away from those negative and rude guys. You don't need them.

It's just like going into a bar/club and seeing women give each other dirty looks. It is called status quo. Top Dog wins

Its not just gay men in bars, its all over. The BDSM community is just as bad. I think its happening because unfortunately, humans many times are just not nice.

I think you need look no further than your 360 page to see the answer. You have a "type" and trick within that type. We are all attracted to type, and some of us (not myself, I can guarantee that) think that making fun of others makes us look better. This is a very small mind at work, and small minds tend to congregate, for they feel very inferior in the presence of intelligence. If someone is not to "type," they are fair game...very sad, very stupid, very limiting.

I really don't have an answer for you...I find that a lot of gay men are terribly insecure and / or self centered.
