PAL will work in the UK - NTSC is for the US.

PAL and NTSC systems for the UK and US are like Windows and MAC programs. They don't work on each others computers.

If you have a PAL based DVD it will play in England but not the States and vice versa for NTSC format DVDs

The PAL I television standard is the standard used for analogue television in the UK and will be used until the digital switchover which is supposed to be completed by 2012.
