I always look for familiarity, except with gas and hotels. If I need gas or a place to rest my head, anyplace will do. Restaurants on the other hand, I need to know what I am eating. The only time I could not do that is when I went to Peru in 1999 to visit my wife for the first time. There are not too many fast food restaurants down there, except in Lima. So, I had to use my future wife's judgment.

Not really, I like to go to the local hideouts if I can, like while in New Mexico I discovered this great burger joint called the Golden Bull. It's cool to find creativity everywhere! But if I'm in a hurry or something, I always head for BK ;)

Actually when I used to go and visit my fiance (this is before we lived together) there is a golden arches sign at his exit. That's how I knew where to get off before actually getting to the exit.
