Of those mothers who oppose the new healthy meals that are being served in schools, dismissing them as 'rubbish', and are instead taking orders from students through their school gate and passing them food from the local takeaway? What are your thoughts/ opinions on this?

I think it's just a reaction to the Government dictating to everyone on what they should eat & drink. Also the so-called 'healthy' foods are contaminated with herbicides. When i was a youngster we could eat an apple straightaway, then we were told to wash it first, now we are being told to peel first because the herbicides soak through the skin.Just be thankful you have eneough to eat, enjoy it,& bugger the 'experts'.

I think that if a school is taking the initiative to introduce healthy meals good on them! The parents who are feeding the children junk food are iresponsible and if I found out that my child was ordering takeaways instead of what she should be having I'd be at the school and asking why they allow it and what they would do if a child became sick as a result as they are still in school care at dinner time.

I think those mothers are horrendous, the reason Britains children are getting so big is because they are eating nothing but junk food, this healthy school campaign is trying to prevent this and give the students something nutritious for once. Their children are the ones who are going to end up obese - if they don't want to eat school dinners they should bring a packed lunch and they could have as many crisps and chocolate without allowing students other than their own to get unhealthy food.

Also school dinners are a lot nicer than they ever used to be - I am a teacher and I quite often eat school dinners, and they are not only nutritious, but they are also nice and tasty.

Yes I have heard and can you believe these stupid brainless morons live in the next village to me (im from kimberworth). No offence to all people in Rawmarsh but im not suprised that it happened there!! If i was a parent of a child going to that school then I would definately be waiting for the stupid wenches at the graveyard entrance to dispose of the crappy food.
I dont know what astonished me more the fact they are doing this or the fact they have to go through a graveyard to get the food to the kids. I think it's safe to say they have no morals at all!!

There is an old saying "you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink". Jamie Oliver did a good job of convincing the Government that healthier school dinners were needed but his customers (the children) have not all been convinced and seemingly neither have their parents. I don't know how extensive the revolt is but I am sure Jamie will be feeling pretty depressed about this latest news.

Actually; they're doing it because they say that the kids don't have time to eat their meals.

There used to be a 15/45 minutes morning/lunch break. They then made that 30/30 - basically meaning that the kids had problems in having time to get their lunch, sit and eat it.

The parents were getting their meals upfront so they had more time, etc. The quality of the food was little - if anything to do with that, which was unfortunately what the media tag line indicated.

Not all the meals were fish and chips; some were salads and baked potatoes, etc.

well Id like to see these mother I bet you they do not look healthy one little bit..... Really as Jamie Oliver keeps pointing out that our society is becoming obese.... you only have to look around and see for yourself ....... Im a size 8 aged 40 (and yes I do eat junk food) and to be honest I think overweight people sre now more the majority than the minority.
Children do prefer junk food and really these mothers are not only undermining the ethos of the school but also undermining the parents of these children...... personally I think she should be given a good talking and if need be given an injunction to say away from the school

The mothers, are taking orders for their own children,
AND this may not be everyday
It is not like any mother can deny she has fed her children sugar, fat or take - away, The children obviously don't like what the school is serving, If they didn't want their Mums to be at the gate to get them other food i am sure their Mum would not be..

I mean hey, In my junior years my Mum dropped me off KFC at school a couple times, i am not obese!!
Some parents may even be packing sugar coated lollies in their kids bags, We would never know..
Its is easy to criticize these mothers but in some way or another i am sure most people have been in similar shoes.

I think the school should run her off. There's a reason the school is serving heathier foods. If the parents don't like what the school is serving then make the kids pack a lunch from home.

I don't really want to get started on this and I appreciate you can't tar all mothers/parents with the same brush by any means but basically they simply don't care or don't understand how important a fully balanced and nutritional diet is to their kids or they simply wouldn't be doing this. It's just mind boggling isn't it? I'm sure it's a small minority and anyone who saw the first series of Jamie's School Dinners would understand why it's so important.

If they're THAT worried about the school meals, they should take fresh salads and fruit with them to school, and why don't they cook their kids a proper meal instead of giving them the usual fish fingers and chips when they get home from school ?
