he's expected to make an apology for it ...
the Arab nation needs to look at things in context...or grow up..

Hell No!!!

Their reaction is no different and no less stupid than that which they had to the Danish cartoon.
They're hypocrites! They regularly lampoon Christianity and have recently held a holocaust cartoon contest in Iran. how dare they get upset when they are in turn criticized?

Since when does the Pope quote from any historic writing other than the BIBLE??? What was the point of the quotation? He's the leading world religious leader and he needs to be more judicious about what comes out of his mouth. I have no doubt that the man is prejudiced against anyone who is isn't a Catholic or a Christian. The Pope's intolerance aside, Islam has been an aggressive religion from the start, first as a means of survival, later as conquerors...they weren't the original occupants of Palestine after all. I believe they also have their own intolerance for people who do not follow their religion, no matter what they claim. I may be mistaken, but I think conversion is a fundamental tenet of their beliefs, and that one of the goals of Islam is that the whole world should follow the teachings of the Prophet, Peace Be Upon Him. Unfortunately there are a lot of us who don't care to be Muslims. That makes us obstacles.

The perception I have of the Muslim community as a whole is that they have little tolerance for criticism and will defend even the most heinous of criminals merely because they share the same faith. If the reality is otherwise, you can't tell from the vitriol coming from the Islamic press.

The pope quoted an ancient chtistian who accused the muslims of spreading their religion through violence, why drag up the aincent past, it was a provocative statemant then as it is now. Did the pope never hear of the christian crusades where massive armies, in the name of christanity slaughtered countless millions of mostly unarmed men women and children all across europe and africa. Do u think God would condone such savagery in his/ her name, Had a pope made such a statement in the times of which he refers he would probably have been beheaded. Ps all muslims are not Arabs

No matter what people's opinion is on Catholics or the Pope, he IS a religious leader. He has a right to make comments and make his opinion known. He is a leader of his group. All leaders speak out in public. We don't all always agree with each leader. That is what makes the United States a great and wonderful place to live. We all can have our opinions and and we have religious freedom.

In my opinion no he shouldn't need to apologize for repeating a passage from a historic writing. It isn't his fault that so many people took it out of context. It only means what they want it to mean.

I think as the Pope he needs to apologys for causing people harm and maybe find a better way to express what he said - but was what he was point out in error - no I don't think so. The problem with being Pope is you have to be diplomatic with your speach - its something he didn't have to do as much in his former job as defender of the faith.

I suppose the Crusades were all sunshine and lollipops?

The Pope's comments, whether he endorsed the quotation or not, were idiotic because they tarred a huge fraction of the world's population for the violent actions of a tiny minority.

As my wife said, he should stick to telling people to abstain from sex; that is guaranteed to ensure a steadily growing population of Catholics forever.

The remark should not have had any affect on a liberal open minded Muslim community and as usual it is the radicals that make life hell for all the rest!! It just proves how intolerant people are becoming.

The pope should not apologize! Every thing he said about islam is the truth.
A religion that preaches violence is not a religion of a loving god. It is a religion of Satan!
