I personally think it is better to know before hand. I told everyone that I could not decide what I wanted, a boy or a girl.. which I thought was true. Then I started noticing that when the doctor would say something about it being a girl (the heart beat was fast so my doctors guess was girl) I breathed an inward sigh of relief. Also, whenever I pictured me and my baby, it was never a he, and always a she through all walks of life. So even though I couldnt admit it to myself I really wanted a girl. My boyfriend wanted a boy from the beginning.. When we got the ultrasound done, it was a girl.. and I was so thankful. But that way, I would have had time to re think things if it was a boy, so I could be really excited about it when he actually came into the world.

Surely this is a personal choice. Some parents like to know because they can prepare better, others claim that it helps to bond with their baby before it is born. Personally, I feel that parents bond anyway, long before the baby comes. For some, the not knowing and then finding out at birth is a sort of reward for all the hard work. I know that in deliveries I have attended that the first thing parents ask is "what is it? " The moment of finding out is exciting and magical, not just for the parents but also the extended family. From a mother and grandmothers point of view it is much more exciting not to know beforehand. You just have to decide what is more important to you, but always remember, the most important outcome is to have a healthy mother and baby, the sex of the baby takes second place. Good Luck.

I was in this position when I was pregnant with my child. However, after much thought, I figured it would be alot easier to find out sooner than later.

Since babies can bring so many surprises, mostly when it's your first child, being able to prepare for either a boy or girl helps with the stress later.

Mom, you can read up on the correct sex of the child to familiarize yourself with the differences and duties it takes (cause boys and girls are sooo soo different!)

Family and friends can give you the appropriate gifts for the child when they know what sex to buy for! It'd be a pain to have to return clothing and items after the child was born because "Ethan doesn't look good in pink" ;)

Don't you worry, there will be ALOT of surprises once that little bundle is born - don't you worry about that! ;)

Enjoy the time preparing for your baby!

(I suggest buying diapers now if see them on sale - and stocking up. Those little squirts sure do use alot of them!) Plus, it won't be such a financial drain buying them once the baby is born).

I think if you plan on having 2 the first one is great to find out because usually you don't have anything for the baby and when you have the shower it is great to either get all boy stuff or all girl stuff. But if that is not a problem then I would say it would be so much fun to wait to find out. I have 2 kids and if I had another I wouldn't find out till the baby was born. but then again I have lots of baby stuff.

I had to know but not everyones is as impatient as me.

Having a baby is the biggest surprise ever, especially as a first time mum. Once you've got that little bundle of joy in your arms whether you know or not about the sex before hand you'll love it like you've never known before.

It is nice to feel organised and to have clothes for your baby because everyone will ask you about your child (even in supermarket queues) and I preferred people to ask what my son name is rather than whether or not he was a boy or a girl.

The general answer mums these days is they want to know?
But honest the little one isnt going to be needing much in the way of fashion outfits for a few months,so stack up on an assortment of baby grows and cardies there all youll need right away and just put a bit aside to buy whatever new gear your baby needs for when he/she goes to meet all those new strangers in life.

With my first child it didn't even cross my mind to find out what it was, but i'm 18wks pregnant and this time i really want to know maybe its because i have a child and 2 stepkids i dont know anyway i've booked a scan and will soon what it is. I suppose there are benefits of knowing gives you plenty time to name and buy whatever colour instead of all the white unisex stuff.

Find out soon has possible. That is what i did.

I get to have the baby room done in a color that isnt mutual.

And we get to focus on a name for that gender.

And people at your baby shower will have a better idea what to get you. That way you dont have a bunch of mutual clothes and colors of stuff.

Mutual colors are hard to find and are just ugly.

I think that it is a personal choice. Both can be very exciting. It really just depends on you. We dicided to find out because I liked the idea of being able to call the baby by their name while he was still in my tummy. I also think that it makes it easier to buy thing and to be bought for.

i kept it as a surprise. I now someone who was told they were having a girl they bought all pink stuff decorated the nursery in pink and it turned out to be a boy!!! But I do think the not knowing is part of being pregnant, and its the best surprise in the world.
