Are you referring to "Memoirs of a Geisha",yes I read it,it was beautifully written and the movie was spectacular. However, there is another book that was an actual autobiography of a real life geisha with a similar title but the title escapes me,it was excellently written and also very very informative,it even went as far to describe what the meanings of the hair ornaments worn in a geisha's hair and described the different rankings of dress of a geisha.Search for it in the library if you are interested,it should be easy because I don't believe there are many books on the art of geisha.

Read the book Memoirs of a Geisha, wonderful book. And had to watch the movie as well, it was good but the book was a bit better, as they always are. Ziyi Zhang was excellent as Sayuri!

Do you mean "Memoirs of a Geisha" by Arthur Golden? If so, yes!! A great book! I didn't see the movie though as I was told it totally lacked the atmosphere of the book, so I passed. I'm sick of seeing movies that completely mortify great books. If you haven't read it, do so!

I read the book and then saw the movie years later. I liked the book so much better than the movie, but I usually find that is the case. You just can't fit all the details into a 2 hour movie. I know people who have only seen the movie and they thought it was great. I told them to read the book. So much better. As far as fabricating, I have no idea. I imagine that sort of thing did happen though.

Yes, read the book, Memoirs, first and loved it. Then went to see the film and was a little bit disappointed that it wasn't as good as it could have been. I still enjoyed the film, but I found the book better!
