a good leader is a good follower.
a follower goes with what the leader does.
the saying "follow what i say but don't follow what i do" is rubbish.
the best way a leader can do is to set an example,
give clear instructions to his followers and to make sure that he's understood,
impose strict discipline but gives room for consideration,
and a leader must have a vision.
however, we cannot negate the fact that a leader cannot lead his followers to a place where he has not gone.

A leader is a gentleman/woman, and an ambassador, who is an ordinary person with extraordinary determination. Examples are; Winston Churchill, Gandhi, etc.
As a leader, I lead to lead and to gain anything but the satisfaction of knowing that my presence is of significance to someone else.

As a project manager, it's my collaborative side which dominates my leadership acitivities. I try to mentor my team & give them as much as they can handle.....and then just a little bit more. They are free to tell me I'm wrong & we can discuss the issue.
I try to develop accountability & integrity in my team - if they commit to completing an activity by a set time, I tell them I expect it to get done. I try to then be hands off and try not to follow up too much & not to micro-manage - phew that's tough !
Over the last few years, I've been devloping my cross-cultural awareness, to understand when Yes means No & No may mean something else.
