Search engines are not so simple anymore. You don't just create meta tags and watch the traffic flow to you like before. Now, most companies require you to list your site before they will crawl it.
Also be aware that if you do not have any sites linking to yours, google will more than likely not bother to add it, or if they do it will be far down the list.
Try this:
Go to google, altavista, yahoo, and others and do a search for www.yourdomain.com (whatever your address is) and see if it's even listed. If not, suggest the site to those search engines.
Also, consider going to www.dmoz.org and picking the category your site fits into and suggest it there as well. They tend to get you listed on every major search engine there is.
Currently, my website gets over 600 hits / day from yahoo, and close to 1200 a day from google. Beans, compared to most companies, but for my market thats big numbers. It took me 5 years to get up there.
Patience is the key here.

meta tags are not used by google (apart from its own for googlebot etc) so if your looking for results in that search engine your going to have to look into
getting links from other websites that : have your keywords in the link) and are from a high ranking site (google page rank)
also you need to look at how your keywords are placed within the text and alt images of your website.
