Maybe we can take a page from the Evolutionist/Creationist playbook and teach the controversy.

What is the big deal -- teaching science is always about teaching the truth. We have eight planets that are in the same plane and have similar characteristics. Pluto has always been a bit odd. So, we teach that we have at least three other objects (Pluto, Charon and UB313 ) that are not in the same plane but share some features with the planets.

It isn't really hard to do.

There had long been a discussion in the sceintific world as to what technically could be considered a planet. A summit was recently held to hash out the very qeustion.. Some determinations were made and put into effect.. These requirements for planethood, unfortunately demoted Pluto to a Dwarf Planet and not a regular planet in our solar system. However, I did not find any information that the name had changed.... butdon't fret.. many scientist left that summit not feeling all warm and cozy with the planet criteria, so it's probably not the last we have heard on the subject.. Science is ever evolving..

I don't think we're qualifed to answer this. We're not scientists, but I do agree with it being taken off the list. It's just a rock . . .

No, because we grew up with the acronym about them. It would just be wrong to deprive the next generation of it.
