No-one ever is sure of British weather, any time of year!

As October can be changeable, I would suggest layering. You definitely need an outer layer that is waterproof because you have a high chance of rain. Then you will need sweaters under that in case the temperature drops. Even if the days are warmer, the nights will be cool.

Try to choose items that don't wrinkle easily and carry a small backpack. That way you can store the outer layers in the backpack when not needed but have them handy for when the temperature changes or the rain starts, as it inevitably will.

Here's a link to the UK weather site so you can check and see what the weather is doing each day before you go. I think you will find that there is nothing predictable about British weather except that it will keep changing.

Note: a quick and easy way to approximately change Celsius into Fahrenheit is to double it and add 30 degrees. This gives you an idea to within a few degrees. Example: 20 celsius. Double it to 40 then add 30 and you have 70 degrees F. As I said this isn't accurate, just close and gives you enough of an idea.

Anyway, have a great time - Britain is a great place to visit.

Sorry Alex, you are coming at a very wrong time of the year.

October to january is the worst time to visit UK.

You do not need a crystal ball as someone suggested, It is pretty much the same through out the year.

DULL, GLOOMY, SHORT DAYTIME, RAINY AND COOOOOOOOOLD

Be prepared for worst weather anyway, as it is very unpredictable here.

At the moment we are entering autumn. We tend to have sunny days but a low sun with long shadows. Light from about 7.30 to 4.30 at the end of october. Its not realy cold but you would need long sleeves and a coat for rainy days. By November maybe a hat and gloves for the night.

You can expect frosty mornings and cold nights, although in recent years we have seen warm periods in October, a sort of Indian summer if you like or a calm before the storm, the climate has changed quite alot, I can remember snow in October but I don't think you will see that now, do take your rain coat and warm clothing.

Rainfall at the moment is below average. Temps should be in the mid to high 60s. Despite what people overseas thinks it doesn't always rain in the UK.
We are currently on drought watch here.
