Welcome to Manchester ,I live there and have all my life, its a great place. The people are warm and friendly, shopping is second to none,an international airport, and a great night life.I have never been a victim of crime and neither have any of my 4 children who have all grown up here.Pity i cant say the same for other major cities i have been to abroad,my bag was stolen within 2 hours of being in Rome,my purse snatched in Turkey, and a friend had his pocket picked in Spain. Your right about crime being higher in cities but thats because theres more people in them and Manchester is no worse than any other city. Good luck and i hope you will be very happy here,im sure you will be x

I use to go to Whalley Range High and I can tell you it's not one of the best areas, but I think it is more to do with the type of people that live there not really the crime rate. My sister use to live in the area and she didn't have any real trouble but she hated it because of the people. The school is brilliant as is the boys school round the corner. If you are living the side of Whalley Range that is close to Chorlton you will be fine as Chorlton is a lovely area. Manchester itself is fantastic! The people are friendly and the place itself is so diverse and multicultural I am sure you will love it. I would say it is as safe a place as any. Just stick with your common sense as you would anywhere and you will be fine.

I have lived in Manchester for 4/5 years and I love it. I have never had any problems. In some areas there are as all cities but it as safe as anywhere else. The problems you hear about on the news are usally gang related and as lon as your not involved in that they wont bother you. Its usally rival gangs but Whalley Range is a nice are and you don't hear of that on the news or at least I haven't, I have found Manchester to be a friendly city. Good luck with your move I'm sure you'll love it.

Whalley Range has some really nice areas, but then some dodgy ones too (particularly if you're hanging round near Alexandra Park). Other than that, it's a great place to live. You're near to Chorlton, which is cool, and you're pretty close to town.

Yes, bad things happen but they are all over the place, we're all at risk from trouble but if you keep your head screwed on then you shouldn't have problems.

I live not far from where you're going. Welcome to South Manchester!!!

Having lived in Manchester's maximum suitable aspects, my suggestion is do no longer. What people on right here seem to forget is that the toe-rags have delivery and the suitable aspects are a popular purpose. shall we face it, once you're a junkie with an £one hundred an afternoon habit and you have merely shot the final of your giro up your septic arm, you may get money from someplace. Its no reliable going to Levenshulme or Harpurhey or different unfavourable districts, they have nowt - to apply the vernacular! bypass to posh Didsbury, Chorlton, Prestwich, they have issues well worth nicking. an excellent flat exhibit small screen television could be in money Converters in the hour and you have yet another restoration to waste your life with.

Manchester is violent, it is known for this. I lived there for 5 years and I saw my fair share including being mugged. Whalley Range is no exception.

I live in Manchester and I know WR - you'll be fine just exercise the normal sensible precautions. Walk facing traffic, keep you valuables to yourself. Don't use a cashpoint at midnight when you're off your face. Its a great city - and lower crime rates than similar cities.
