Ser and estar both mean to be. They are different though. Estar is used when something isn't permanant, something that changes like moods. Ser is for things that are more permanant. For example Yo soy americana. Nacionality doesn't really change. Ser's conjgation is Yo soy, tu eres, el/ella/ud es, Nost. somos, ellos/ellas/uds son. Estar's is Yo estoy, tu estas, el/ella/ud esta, Nost. estamos, ellos/ellas/uds estan.I hope this helps.

Ser and estar are :to be.
Yo estoy aqui.- I am here
Yo estoy contenta. I- I am happy
El esta triste.- He is sad
Yo soy buena estudiante- I am a good student.
El es mi hermano.- He is my brother
Nosotros somos los nuevos vecinos.- We are the new neighbors.

i believe the ser means to be, but as unchanging
estar means to be, but as a location and condition
conjugations for ser:
I: soy
You: eres
He/She: es
We: somos
You third person: sois (accent over i)
They: son
conjugations for estar:
I: estoy
You: estás
He/She: está
We: estamos
You third person: estais (accent over the i)
They: están
example use of estar:
¿cómo estás? meaning how are you?
example use of ser:
soy un estudiante meaning I am a student
