Hello,

Ptosis and dry eyes may or may not be related symptoms of an underlying medical condition. So, as part of a thorough medical examination, make sure to request that a neurological evaluation be done.

The nerve that maintains your eyelids up is called: "cranial nerve number three", which is one of twelve cranial nerves (CN I-XII) that derive from specific regions of the brain and perform specific functions. In contrast, the nerve that shuts your eyelid is CN VII (cranial nerve number seven), which also happens to be the one involved in keeping your eyeballs moist.

To determine whether a relationship exists between dry eyes and ptosis woul best be answered by either a neurologist or an Ear-Nose-Throat (oto-rhyno-laryngologist) licensed physician.

I agree with the eye drop answer. The only limiting factor in eye drops is the preservative. Use perservative free drops and put a drop in each eye every 2 hours. Botox is a good answer for the ptosis. Systane is not the same as Restasis. Restasis has a mild cortasporn in it (anitrejection drug)

I assume you have had a complete medical evaluation and are already on appropriate medications.

Other than that, you can consider plastic surgery to help the ptosis (drooping of the eyelids), and use eye drops for dry eyes.

I have eyerhitis. Also my tear ducts are a fourth of the normal size. My doctor recommended Systane drops. They are over the counter. They are the same as restasis eye drops he says.
