i agree with you. warner bros has more important things to do than write rejection letters to inspiring actors/actresses. But why not? if you want to be in one of their movies, write to em. whats the worst that could happen?

I once wrote a letter to the corporate headquarters of Target to ask for a job at my local store. I never got a response.

Acting is a job. You don't just write a letter and ask to get a job without there being a job posting first. Depending on the branch of the company, (indie branches are a little more likely to respond to you) you may or may not get a response. In general, any scripts you send are not opened for fear that you will sue them if they come out with an idea similar to yours.
If you do send anything, you can try a headshot and a resume... a letter is not always the most professional thing.

Sorry, but your cousin is totally full of it. It doesn't work like that. She would have to get an agent (which is a job in and of itself) who would then submit her to an audition in front of a casting agent. Then she MIGHT get one line in a film, if she's extraordinarily lucky. You can't just write to a studio and say, "Can I be in one of your movies?" and then think they'll say, "Sure, I'll risk my multi-million dollar film on someone I've never met or never seen perform. She sounds like a sweet kid, why not?"

I would recommend one of the many books on how to be a professional actor.

The letters are read by a secretary and thrown in the trash can.
Motion picture companies do not "put people in movies." Actors are submited for projects through their talent agent and/or talent manager. If the actor is "right," for the role the casting director will call the agent of the actor and schedule an appointment for him/her to audition for a role.

Your cousin is full of it.

The studio system ended in the 1960's. Many times a studio is not even involved in a film until it is completed. That is called negative pickup. These days studios are mainly involved in financing and partnering with production companies.

The only way you can get in a film is by being cast in it.

Nothing happens.

This is because studios don't cast people, casting agents do. They cast people that they've already seen in films, or possibly in plays. Sometimes the director or producer of a given project will suggest someone that they've seen, and that person will be cast.

The days when studio bosses cast people that they saw sitting in diners on Hollywood Boulevard are long gone. Sorry.

she would have to get an agent first, before she was able to be in one of the films. or sometimes films have open casting calls, where they will let anyone w/ an agent or not audition. but you'd just have to keep your eyes and ears open to hear about those auditions.

i'm sure warner bros. was just being polite. in actuality, she would have to get an agent (requiring an audition and resumé), then audition again for the director of the specific film she wanted to be in.

I cannot believe people actually write to try to be in films. What you do is you go to L.A. sit a a cafe full of wannabees, and if you are any good, you will be poached, ie. wanted. Breaks come when someone wishes to use what you have, writing, and telling them is not goo.d. Decide where you wish to be. Go there, stay there, and luck will out.

Laughter?!! Can you imagine how many people write asking the same thing? A form letter is something that is sent out or no reply at all.
