By correct do you mean political correct?
If you mean in balance with the ratio in society, then it is indeed worrying, but I take comfort that in another generation these kind of issues will have worked themselves out. In the mean time we should all make the effort to BE fair and equal, rather than make the effort to LOOK fair and equal.

In an ideal world The Armed Forces and Police Force would be manned by a cross section of our country as a whole, however we live in a far from ideal world. But there is no such thing as a correct ratio. Saying we should employ a certain amount of asians or anyone else for that matter just means the politically correct morons win the day again..
Having served in the army for 19 years so far i have never seen any harrassment of ethnic minorities, and the army has been specifically targeting ethnic minorities to get them to join. But only a few do because a majority do not want to join the British army. Because maybe they don't have the same national pride and willing to do something for the country because they are too busy claiming that they are picked on.

Most are not citizens are have double citizenship. Nowadays that create a problem. We are at WAR - and Asians don't apply for the police department. Most come from countries where police are re grimes, and they choose not to join. Here in the US the policies and attitudes of police officers are that you must be a US citizen. Asians are rated alone with Blacks - You dress and look frightening, you are not Caucasian. Unfortunately, some of them think no other race exist except them. They are the supreme race. NOT! they feel they control the US and all the 50 states. NOT! The US is now the melting pot of this world. Start applying for the jobs and see don't things change. The way our children, young adults, adults are treated.

It's certainly NOT because they are not encouraged to join. It certainly not because they aren't up to the task. It certainly isn't because they're incapable of doing the job. We have a fairly good representation here in NYC and hey normally work near NYC PD H!, which is spitting distance to China Town. They're very respectful AND a credit to the Department that has so many ill-mannered and rude bullies! Oh, my buddy's first son-in-law is from Thailand and he became a police officer about a year and a half ago. Add that one to the numbers (by the way, what is "correct" ratio?)
Insofar as the Armed Services, my two oldest nephews (one was in the Marines and the other was in the Air Force) both knew plenty of "Asians" while in the Armed Services. I still don't understand what "correct" ration means.

Do you know the correct ratio?
Should it not be to the ratio you think is acceptable, then suggest you direct your question to the Asians, as they are the people that will not be applying for law enforcement and armed forces positions.
The same question could be asked about the ratio of Asian corner shops!!
In my experience the Asians and other ethnic minorities are only interested in providing essential goods, ( food and clothing for example ) as this gives them the opportunity of un-limited earnings.
As another example of this, can you inform me of how many Asians or other ethnic minorities you know of that operate, say a souvenir shop or perhaps a shop selling light fittings.

It is a cultural question.
Asians tend to think jobs in the Police and Armed forces are for uneducated people or criminals.
For instance the police in some countries are very corrupt , so it is not something your parents would be proud of.

And just who determines what the "correct ratio" is?
Maybe the correct ratio of Asians are not applying for the job.

first of all, what do you mean by the correct ratio?
secondly, what's the demographic of asians in your country? does that number correspond to your correct ratio?
anyway, i seriously believe in the blind hiring practice where a person's race is not taken into consideration. if he or she is gd enough, then the job is theirs.
I can't say what the US asians are thinking but generally as a person who have migrated to a 'better' country, they usually have high hope for their children. Common jobs parents always want their children to be are like doctors, teachers and engineers. So the children grow up trying to live up to their parents (who have toiled and experience hardship) dreams.

What do you mean by a correct ratio? People who apply for these jobs, then pass the exams to enter, then serve with honour are the ones who are doing them, colour or religion doesn't come into it! I am truly sick of hearing under-represented this and under-represented that to do with Government or Civil Service jobs and I am a Government Race Relations Officer!

Personally I feel safe knowing that the police hire people that are fit for the job, regardless of their race or ethnicity.
No matter the race of the person there shouldn't be a ratio that they HAVE to hire. It should be completely based on the right people for the job.
