Russian by birth, Romain de Tirtoff (shortened phonetically to the french "Erte") was a decorative artist, designer and illustrator.
Featured in Harper's and a career in costumes and stage sets with the Balle Russe, Follies and Hollywood.
He achieved fame/infamy in the late 70's and early 80's.
His cloned designs were marketed and sold in multiple forms (Print, sculpture, jewelry, scarves, playing cards and other strange concoctions) ala junk bonds or swampy Florida real estate.
