I am open for suggestions. My husband has sleep apnea and the doctor gave him a CPAP machine. He says it is uncomfortable so he won't wear it. He won't try the breathing strips or the mouth appliance. The doctor wanted to do surgery...tonsilectomy and rhinoplasty, but he refused. She said it is really serious because the sleep study showed he was not getting enough oxygen and having almost 20 apnea episodes per night. I have tried ear plugs but they really don't help. We have a couch but it is the kind with a recliner at each end so it is uncomfortable to lay across. We do not have a spare bedroom. I have a 22 month old baby as well as a 17 year old son that I am homeschooling. I need some sleep. I am so tired and grumpy. I feel so tired..from lack of sleep and my doctor says I am severly anemic. I am worried that if something doesn't get better soon, my kids are going to be without one of their parents. This isn't healthy for either of us.

Have you sat him down and told him everything you just told us? Especially the second last sentence... something or someone needs to slap him upside the head to wake him up (no pun intended).

If he won't listen, tell him he MUST keep his life insurance paid up to date... and keep checking to make sure it is... maybe he'll get the hint then.

he could have sleep apnea...where he stops breathing multiple times a night. Untreated sleep apnea can cause all kinds of problems including heart problems. My husband and I have been together for 14 years now. He has always been a loud snorer, but about 4 years ago it got really bad. I took him to the doctor for the flu and he told me to tell the doc about his snoring. I told the doctor about how obscenely loud it was, and that there were silences and snorts in there too. He recommended a sleep study. during the study my husband stopped breathing an average of 6-8 times PER HOUR. they prescribed a machine called a C-PAP to force air into his airway and make him continue to breathe all night . within a few weeks he had a ton more energy. he does still manage to snore some, but it is just a fraction as loud. and a bonus is that his machine produces a slight hum that is great white noise!

What's wrong with sleeping on the couch? How about putting a pillow over the husband's face when he starts snoring to show him how much it annoys you? Ever try duct tape over his mouth?

dont worry about it so much i'm 13 n thats the same problem that my mom faces with my dad SOMETIMES. if it really bothers you record his snoring sound in a recorder n tell him what its like. never make him sleep right straight on his back but at one side

Smother the thoughtless bastid in his sleep!

I would (seriously) recommend that you make a recording of his snoring....a nice LOUD one. Play it back for him to show him just how inconsiderate he's being to you guys.

i have sleep apnea,my doctor sent me to a specialist(sleep doctor) who sent me to a sleep clinic for overnight sleep study.I had a CPAP machine for two years with the full face mask with the highest setting for the RES MED machine which was very uncomfortable with the air blowing out of the face at the high setting of 20. I now have the Bi-level at a much lower setting of air coming at you,and find the breathing out or exhalation much easier. this change 6months ago was good for me. I hope you both do not give up till it is over.

go to wallgreens and get some foam ear plugs, they are comfy, i wear them to bed because my husband snores, they don't hurt your ears either, and they are for things like sleeping on the plane or whatever.

I have one of these husbands, too! With the same problems, too. On top of it all, I have insomnia. There is really no answer for it, but in your case, get HIM to sleep on the sofa, uncomfortable or not. You deserve the bed.

oh my! i can relate!!!! i have been dealing with it for years. it helps me to go to bed and get to sleep first. i also put a pillow over my head and his. if this does not work you should go buy one of those 30 dollar blow up mattresses with an air pump and one of you should sleep in the living room. best of luck sweety!
