Depends on the course and the topics you are required to cover. You have to look at the entire year and block out in advance how much time you can devote to each of the topics. Otherwise you find yourself with three weeks left in June and you haven't gotten beyond WW One!

This depends on the curriculum.
If you are teaching a class on the American Revolution, then it should take every class.
This year, I am teaching eight grade American History, and we discussed the American Revolution for 4 weeks. Proclamation 1763 to U.S. Constitution.

It varies widely. It depends on the unit, the age of the students, their ability, the time you have available with all the other units...Start with your assessment and work backwards. If it looks like it's going to take too long, change your assessment!
