The first thing I would do would be to "pay back" the state for all the assistance they have provided for me. Second I would make sure my family was provided for and set up my finances to provide for the future. Third I would set up a foundation to help others. I would definitely do some traveling but I'm not materialistic so I wouldn't be buying a lot of stuff. I would probably get some land and build a nice cabin- have some animals.

Buy a nice, but not terribly expensive home, probably on a 5 acre lot. Furnish it. Put enough in a home account to pay for all future taxes and repairs. Pay off all my debts. Buy a reasonable wardrobe. Put whatever was left in an annuity that gave me a set amount of retirement income per month, starting at age 45.

Then I would use all my available time wisely. Not burdened by rent and work, I'd volunteer for the causes closest to my heart. I'd write more. I'd adopt pets who needed a foster home.

Pay my debts , see that my family was secure and look for a way to help others . Maybe set up a trust to help students , the homeless or the ill that can't afford health care . Now days even a million dollar doesn't go far .

I am poor, so I would:

1) Get everybody in my family and extended family out of debt and owning their own house

2) Give some to charity to help the under-privileged.

3) Give some to a charity which helps young people get into business (Grants)

4) Setup a business to do what I want to do

5) I'm sure there would be enough to live off the interest and the successful business I just setup :>

:)

Buy a house, not rent, not lease no mortgage, own it.... I would buy a vehicle, own it, not leased or making payments..... but if one was smart, put it in the bank at an interest rate of at least 3%. 3% a year is nearly 100 grand... then you are not so poor anymore. if you start spending it immediately, you will run out of it a lot quicker. so bank at least half of it. that stillgives you 500 thousand to work with.. that's at least 50 thousand a year on interest...... think about, with your house paid and car owned.... 50 only to pay bills and every day living is alot of money.....

I would pay off my house and my children's houses. set my grandchildren up with trust funds for their education. give a substantial amount to our church. Help out some friends and give to Charity's. I would just want to live comfortably and see others happy too. I would probably still work because I would have given most of the money to help others

I'd hire a financial advisor. Otherwise, I wouldn't have a CLUE as to how to wisely handle a million dollars.
