I use it all the time. Simply press the 'print screen' key above the insert and delete key. This capture what you are looking at on screen at that moment. You then need to go to something like 'Paint', or 'WordPad', or 'Word', and press paste or control 'p'. The image of the screen will be in place in this document. The only thing I have found annoying with this is that the image is extremely small when you print it out. You can grab the picture box to make it larger though.
Good luck!

your print screen button still works on windows 98. when you have the screen up the way you want it, displaying what you need to display, press the print screen button. after you've pressed the print screen button, an image of your computer screen has been saved to the clipboard (or a small piece of temporary memory in your computer) and all you have to do is open up paint, or photoshop, or any image software, free, or expensive, (i use paint, on my computer its in the start bar, under
All Programs>
Acessories> and then paint should be one of the options.
when you open up paint, right click in the middle of the white rectangle that should come up, and click "paste" you should be able to click "file" and "save as" and save your desktop as a JPG. (or go to "edit" next to "file" and look for "paste" under "edit" make sure while its asking you to name the file, that you arent saving the file as a "BMP" or bitmap. these are very large picture files, and usually saving your desktop as a JPG or JPEG is about the same quality, and takes up WAY less space.
let me know if i didnt clarify anything, or if i need to explain something again, possibly in a different way, as a couple years ago, i was in about the same boat you're in now. so good luck! have you checked out the DOS archives? ITS GREAT!!

In windows when you press PrtSc a picture of your screen is saved to the clipboard. You can open up Paint or any other graphics program and do Edit->Paste and the picture will be pasted into the paint program. From here you can save it to a file or print it out.
In addtion ALT+PrtSc only takes a picture of the active window.

I have found that Alt+Print Screen works every time.
Just press Ctrl+V to paste into an application like, Word or Paint.
You can also CROP it in Word by using the Picture Bar.
