I am 16 and will be 17 in december. Me and my mom don't have a strong relationship anymore because of her husband. she got angry because i refused to treat him the way she wanted and said she was done with me and refuses to support me any longer and i could just leave. My mom's husband has a criminal record etc and i don't feel comfotable being around him. I am currently staying at my aunts house but would like in with my other aunt who has a foster care license and all of that. So i would have to transfer schools in order to that because i don't want to drop out. Everyone ahs told me my mom would have to sign papers for me to transfer schools ut i don't see how that is the case if i am not eve living at home. What all should I do?

talk to your mom like an adult about signing the papers - if she won't support you anymore she may atleast sign the papers so she'll atleast know that you're with someone that you'll be safe with

First of all, your mom has to support you until you reach the age of consent - which could be, depending on what state you live in , could be anywhere from 18 - 21. You can notify Social Services as to your situation. You shouldn't be forced to live with a criminal.
I don't understand why she would have to sign papers for you to change schools - talk to the principals of both schools and tell them what you have written here. Has she actually refused to sign them? You don't say that here. Your aunt could be declared your legal guardian and then she can sign any papers. So you have lots of options.

Try talking to your foster care licensed aunt, she should be able to tell you or find out. I think each state is different, Sorry things aren't going well with you it's so hard when a new stepparent comes in the picture, I know first hand. You get your head up and try to do the best you can focus on sta ying i n s chool and making something of your life. Sounds like you got a good head on your shoulders.

yes your mom will have to sign the transfer, she is still your legal guardian ( you did not say where your dad was and if he knows where you are living)

But your mom is your legal guardian no matter if you are living with your aunt or not. and as such only she can sign legal papers for you.

In fact she could order you back to the hosue, call the police on you as a run away if she want to right now.

She could sign over guardianship of you over to one of your aunts if she wanted.

Sorry

Go to child protective services and explain your fears, they may assign you a guardian at litem which would be an attorney for you.It may come down to going to court..,have the family member whom you want to stay with go with you to child protective services.Sounds like you are a great kid and good luck.God Bless we are rooting for ya.
