Perhaps it is because they feel a complete, thorough explanation is needed to answer the question being posed. Perhaps they know that some of the prior answers given were given incorrectly, and the misinformation provided could adversely affect the person who first posed the question. Perhaps their response is necessary in order to provide complete direction. Or perhaps they just can type well, like to respond, and like to give long answers like me! By the way, I guess they are welcomed, because most of the anwers I give are chosen as the best answer.

If you don't like to read, or are somewhat illiterate, don't read them.
I sometimes enjoy a long answer when it is from an intelligent , articulate person who has something interesting to say from his own imagination.
It's when some idiot copy pastes a mile long pile of garbage that isn't even a response to the actual question is what gets me.

I agree with you. They should be kept short because of people's attention span.
I consider who is asking a question. If they are baiting, they aren't looking for real answers. Why waste the time with a long answer (or short answer for that matter.)

Some questions require long answers. Other questions require short answers.

If you don't want to read them, don't. Heaven forbid you take the time to get opposing points of view.
I write long answers, right or wrong, if I have something to say, by golly I am going to say it. . I hope that there is someone who is sincerely interested enough in the question that they will read them.

Sometimes a question NEEDS a long answer. This one doesn't, but many do.
I don't mind when people post long answers, so long as it's relevant to the question.

An answer needs to b4 as long as it has to be, but i agree that if it goes on page after page, it doesn't serve anyone

Short and sweet...and incomplete. Answers should be as long as they need to be.
