Pardon, your arragance is showing. Only the US and apparently the British seem to think because we are somehow superior, we should take care of other countries and tell them what is right and wrong. We need to mind our own business, reduce our horrific crime rates, and end poverty here before we try to save the rest of the world. We have become the 800 ton gorrilla that no one wants to invite to dinner because we have bad manners.

I think a lot of times people confuse a countries government with it's people. People are people, most people want to be healthy, make sure their kids are taken care of, have enough to eat, and a decent home. There is a lot of country and religion bashing going on (sexual orientation as well) throughout this site. What does all that matter in the long run? Really, if someone insults your mother, you would most likely react angrily. This is the same thing that happens when you insult someones country or religion. It's okay to b*tch about your own "family" but anyone else that does is gonna get it! That's human nature.

(I just went and read your previous question and answers to same. Ouch!)
Though my grandparents emigrated from Portugal, I am American. I was born here, raised here, and am proud to be an American. I assume that you are new to America and the way of life here. Let me give you, what I think, is essential information to future American Citizens.
The USA is unlike any country in the world. We never had a King, dictator, Emperor, or military government. (The Colonies were set up, initially free of the King's rule). We have never had (and never will have) an official religion sponsored by the Government. We were born from a group of peoples from different countries who came to be free of religious and political persecution. We were born from a group of peoples who tamed a wilderness and built a country that was like no other.
The USA is the oldest government on Earth. (Britain changed from a Monarch-centric to parliament-centric government after the Revolution). It works because of its diversity. We, as Americans, can't figure out why the rest of the world can't live in a society as "free" and open as we do. The answer is how we were born...our new government had none of the "baggage" the "old" governments that have changed had. A democratic Iraq has tribal, religious, dictatorial, etc. baggage. A new government has to address these centuries old conflicts.
Having said that, there are idiots/zealots in all countries and societies. In the USA, as in other countries, there are a few people/idiots who give the rest of the country a bad name. The only way to see how Americans truly are is to get away from the big cities and go to where the American spirit lives and outnumbers the few. In my community in Central NY (5 hours away from NYC), we are a picture of the world. Here, Asians, Hispanics, Blacks (I hate political correctness...my black friends hate being called African Americans: they ARE Americans), Indians, American Indians, and Muslims live without incident. We all attend PTA meetings, soccer games, and community functions smiling and getting along. Stereotypes don't exist here with my generation or my daughter's generation. (My parents' generation is coming around.) This is the true USA.
Our attitude toward the rest of the world is described above. Why can't a Protestant marry a Catholoc in Ireland without causing a furor? Why can't a Shi'ite and a Sunni get along in Iraq? Why can't China allow there citizens to speak their minds. Americans can! We live peacefully here!
Don't hate us because we are a plural society. Don't hate us because we want to spread the freedom of our society to the rest of the world. Don't hate us because your God tells you to.
Give us a chance. We are Americans. We belong to the oldest country in the world. We want to be your friends...we can help each other. Just ignore the noisy few idiots who spew hatred in the name of the USA...
...we'll ignore yours.

Hi,
I see your points from a Brit veiwpoint, as to the mis-conception that Americans are brash, arrogant, self-pompous etc.
So are a lot of Brits.
Nice to see that th US$ is down the tubes at the moment. I could pop back again with my £Sterlings on the cheap.
Seriously, I have always enjoyed the hospitality and freindship of my American cousins, so all the best to both sides of the pond.

Go have what ever calms you down and I would not put yourself on the line here if you cannot take some 'cross fire' The nature of this medium, the same sad sods who would not even dare look you in the eye, use this to get back at all the wrong they think has been done to them and 'hit' on anyone. Well wishes friend

It appears that you brought this on yourself my dear. You must remember as impassioned as you are about a topic theree are others just as impassioned on ther other side. Add to that the anonymity of yahoo answers and you have people who feel free to verbally abuse anything you say. Also there are a lot of simple people who just want to stir up bleep and could care less about the issues.

because of the fact polls/archives/scientific samples commonly are representative of the full (with a small margin of blunders), does this answer your question? "Protest in Dearborn, Michigan denounces Israeli attack on Gaza with the aid of Tom Eley 31 December 2008 On Tuesday, a protest against the Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip attracted approximately 5,000 human beings to Dearborn, Michigan, close to Detroit. yet another protest in ny city attracted numerous hundred." in user-friendly terms numerous hundred human beings in ny city, a city of numerous million, and an incredible type of of the protesters are of arabic descent. In Atlanta, in user-friendly terms some dozen protested, from what they confirmed on the television. many times, human beings do no longer supply a crap regarding the arabs or the palestinians. many times, the professional-Israeli media and AIPAC make constructive anybody (our government and the sheep/lots) is familiar with (thinks) that Israel is the harmless sufferer. in my view, i'm appalled and enraged with the aid of my united states of america's silence and condonement of this atrocity.
