I recently read this online that deli meats do contain listeria and pregnant women should should use caution when eating these products. I would do more research online. At least you will have more facts to weight the situation.
I eat cereal, a packed lunch from home or a store sandwich/salad.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

I hope it isn't dangerous because I just finished eating a big sandwich! Lunch meat does have loads of nitrates and nitrites though so it isn't a good idea to eat it more than once or twice a week, even if you aren't pregnant. During this pregnancy I have probably eaten lunch meat twice a month on average-usually I make sandwiches out of roast or chicken that I cooked myself and know is low in sodium.

Dangers everywhere! The hysterical warnings by medical people and books never surprise me. If you're getting your sandwich made at a deli, the meat can be assumed to be fresh. You can check to make sure it's not green and slimy yourself, before taking a bite. What you don't want to do is buy a package of or fresh sliced lunch meat or sandwich and leave it exposed to the open air for days, nor leave it in the icebox until it changes color and texture.

I heated the roast beef and made a french dip whenever I craved a sandwich... until I hit about 35 weeks and I gave in. The thought behind the lunch meat ban is the same as raw fish. Both can contain bacteria that could cause any person to become ill... but when you are pregnant that illness could seriously harm your baby.
They also caution you against soft cheese- this is because in some places soft cheeses aren't pasteurized. Here in US, in order to be sold at grocery stores it must be pasteurized, so you are safe.

I stayed away from lunch meat when I was pregnant for a couple of reasons. The machines that they use to slice the meat are pretty gross, they can contain bacteria that an adult can handle but not a fetus. Lunch meats also contain a lot of nitrates and nitrites(so does bacon) and this can harm the baby as well. When an infant starts solid foods you also have to becareful of nitrates that are naturally found in some foods i.e. spinach. Around 8 months old, babies are able to break down the nitrates.
I ate a lot of peanut butter and jelly (it was a craving). Other options are pasta salad, green salads, chicken salad, pork bbq......

Hi! I have a 1 year old daughter and while I was pegnant with her the only foods I wouldn't eat were foods that made me sick, didn't agree with me type foods.
If you're really concerned I would call your GP's office, or your OBGYN, you don't even have to talk to the doctor you can just ask the nurse.
I ate lunch meats when I was pregnant and I have a healthy, happy baby!
Hope that helps!

The meat would have to be contaminated to carry listeria. There would be a recall and it would be immediately pulled from the shelves. Otherwise it is okay to eat. Personally, I don't care for sandwiches, I like salads, fish/chk and veggies and fruit for lunch.

It is not good for you to eat lunch meats cause they are full of preservatives. You could take fruit and left overs from the supper the night before for lunch. You shouldn't eat microwave dinners either for the same reason. Eating first fruits and veggies for luch is the best thing that you can do for lunch.
