When a rifle fires at a distant target, where should the barrel be pointing?

Above the target, but depending upon the presence of wind, also to the right or left. This would be typical for a rifle of the variety used by a "sniper."

If your "distant target" is not too distant, then it might be possible to aim directly at it and hit it if the rifle is extremely powerful and the bullet relatively light.

If it is not a very powerful rifle and the target is far away, then aim above the target.

The barrel should be pointing at the bottom center. Coz wen you fire it the forse of the shot kicks the barrel up a bit. So if you put it at the top you will miss.
