Above the target, but depending upon the presence of wind, also to the right or left. This would be typical for a rifle of the variety used by a "sniper."
If your "distant target" is not too distant, then it might be possible to aim directly at it and hit it if the rifle is extremely powerful and the bullet relatively light.

All depends on the wind, distance and if the rifle has being zeroed correctly. But if they are your only choice of answers i would have to say above the target.

The barrel should be pointing at the bottom center. Coz wen you fire it the forse of the shot kicks the barrel up a bit. So if you put it at the top you will miss.
