We tried that before WWII. Look where that got us. If you can get everyone from coming to our doors begging for help, maybe your words would mean more. They find us, we don't find them.

Leogirl08 is right in that isolationism did in fact lead to the bloodest war in the planet's history.

It does not work. Not for the good guys anyway.

Americans seem to think its an either/or choice. It's not. It is completely possible to interact with the rest of the world without EVERYONE hating you. The US managed to do this for 50 years before Bush came into power.

You need to define isolationism. Do you mean just standing down from it's self appointed, but internationally accepted role as world policeman, or complete economic isolation? Could it survive reliant on internal markets? Could everyone else get by without it's exports? Very interesting. I'm not sure.

Nope, we provide massive amounts of food throughout the world, we have protected the Phillipines for years, our economy helps stimulate the worlds. They tried that in WWII, before the US entered, imagine if Pearl Harbor was never bombed, until the North American continent was the only area of the world, not controlled by Germany or Japan. If that was the case, we would be speaking German or Japanese right now.

No. North Koreans are isolations. Are they better off because of it? The country of Burma became Myanmar and became isolationists. They could not survive that way and have opened up somewhat.
