I, like other anti-war Democrats, especially Veterans like me, support our troops.

We don't support the war in Iraq.

Can you understand that Republicans? Why do you people always twist things around?

In defense of many republicans, they don't all think that. But most of the ones who do, get their thoughts from Rush Limbaugh and have little to no ability for critical thinking.

Oh yeah, and this too:

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."
-- Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials

I don't consider myself one of "you people" as you stated. I am a Republican, however. Not hard core, though. I, too am a Veteran and I remember being in the Middle East in the 90's the 1st time we went over there. We should have finished the job then instead of pulling out. Then maybe we wouldn't be there now & 9/11 may have never happened. I think it's important to support our troops and saying we are there for nothing is not supporting them. Talk to the troops who have come back. They'll tell you what the people are like that we are fighting and they'll tell you it's worth the fight. At least my friends feel that way. The terrorists are murderous cowards and we can't just let them continue to get away with terrorizing the world because they think we are all evil infidels.

I consider myself a Republican, although the lines of distinction these days do get murky. But, to answer your question, I really don't know where I stand on the war in Iraq. When we first went, I was behind it 100%. Now, while I do still support our President, and our troops (I am a veteran as well), I'm disheartened by the apparent lack of progress we are making, and confused as to when we cut our losses. I bet if you asked most of the troops, they would say they wanted to get the heck out of there. I just think that if we pull out now, where does that leave the Iraqis that do want us there (and there are some) helping them? And are there enough there that want our help to warrant the international beating, and the loss of our troops lives we are taking?

The two are not connected. If you really supported the troops, you would keep your mouth shut. See how Toby Keith handled it. When you have anti-war people out there protesting and saying that our troops are killing civilians, this emboldens the enemy.

We are in Iraq, we are staying there until the job is done. Let us finish the job we started. You cannot change the past. By getting the press attention, our enemy thinks we are going to bail like Vietnam. This only causes more of our guys to die.

in the beginning i'm no longer a Republican Calling this an unjust war is merely LAME without backing it up. "Why could no longer it relatively is "unpatriotic" to no longer provide those squaddies ideal care whilst they return domicile" wasent it the Democrats that the place attempting to shrink investment for this war? Are you attempting to assert that it relatively is better if our solders had no weapons or bulletproof jackets as long as they get sturdy care whilst they arrive domicile? information FLASH: they gained't be comeing domicile becuse the Democrats killed them! maximum Republicans be attentive to that Democrats do no longer help the war merely to get into the White domicile. Take John Kerry or Hillary Rodham Clinton they the two voted for the war yet as quickly as all of them set to work for the White domicile they did no longer help the war. Hmm.... you think of they may be saying that to get some extra votes? And it is not merely those 2 different Democrats working for President are doing the comparable ingredient. Now what can we get via ending this war? properly, fist off i think of all of us be attentive to that as quickly as end this war the terrorist will see this as there victory including to extra terror assaults. Now that the U.S. is out of Iraq who would be garding the oil wells? no person? properly we now be attentive to the place the Terrorist will attack first. Ha-ha you theory gas costs the place extreme now! Oh, we could no longer overlook approximately each and every person of those people who helped the U.S. (you be attentive to those that helped us locate the Terrorist) and the cops and the Iraq military. what's going to happen to all those sturdy people who have confidence us a lot? properly in our final war "desolate tract hurricane" all those human beings the place killed. And as quickly as we went back we did no longer understand why they hated us a lot. And we could no longer overlook every person that died for the U.S. in this war could have died in ineffective. Our Troops relatively have confidence that they are making a distinction in this worldwide. Makeing it safer and an more advantageous place why won't have the ability to the Democrats merely have alittle have confidence in our armed foces and enable them to end there job?

again with republican and democrat, that stays in the playground, when you ***** and moan about the republicans at this point you are against the troops you cant have both because the majority run government is republican at this point, politics and soldiers are to different things but if you are so busy fighting back and forth repub this and demo that it is a waste of breath, but to actually support the troops youd drop your playground comments and use the time and breath to support the people on the front lines for you to have the right to complain....just because the media didnt report it, doesnt mean we were not on war fronts during democrats in office, most republicans are actually out on the front lines but when out there its just the enemy and me , not who'd you vote for?, silly, politics are all a lie, its just to make the rich richer and the other side your lovely democrats goal is to make the poor rely more on the government , great a bunch of fund addicts to have to come to them for everything, then you have liberals that are just confused little children not knowing if the should go left or right and independants are just bored rich people that want to get a new trophy on there wall.....PS..I am neither Republican, Democrat, Liberal, or independant, just an american tired of the crap of shooting spitballs back and forth between grown men and woman and not actually attempting to put heads together and come up with solutions , stop whining and pointing fingers and just learn that major compromising is in need.....

It's all smoke and mirrors, just like the magician that makes you watch the left side while the trick is really on the right. I'm in an odd position. I disagree with how and why we are in Iraq, but if we can finish the job, something great has occurred for the people in Iraq. The troops are doing a good thing, for the wrong reasons.

Republicans do not claim that anyone "hates" the troops. The claim is: "You cannot support the troops and be against the war in Iraq." Because you don't support what they are doing, you don't support the troops.
You are the one trying to twist things by making a false claim, that Republicans claim anyone hates the troops. No one claims that.
The problem with anit-war Democrats is that they are scared. Not guts. Not willing to fight the enemy. Cut and run is all they know how to do.
Democrats in Congress supported the war, until it god bad publicity.

No we cant understand that, and more importantly, our troops don't understand that. Ask some of the troops who come home if they believe YOU people that say they support them by gathering at the White House, burning our flags, and making God awful posters of our leaders. No, they don't believe you idiots support them.Much like my father who served 2 tours of Vietnam didn't believe you.

We have an all volunteer military...Men and women enlist because they believe in the cause of the war and are willing to fight it.So when they hear someone saying "I support the troops but not the war", and constantly bash our President, sorry, they too put you on the side of the terrorists...

Im neither Democrat or Republican, simply American, At first I believed that the war was necassary, (partially because at the time Colin Powell wassaying it was and he is a very honorable man) but then I began to see that we (the American people) were sold a dream. So after the capture of hussein, I thought great mission accomplished.lets get back to Afghanistan and finish up our business and come home. 2 years later......I see much more serious enemies at our gates, ( IRAN, CHINA, N.Korea), No Bin Laden and a unclear military policy in IRAQ. and a administration, who is way to secretive and deceitful, with a year left in office. ALl I can say is i have looked back in our history and this is THE WORST Administration this country has ever had. They openly lie to us and we take it! Congress and the Senate isn't much better. I love my country and I'm the first one to die for her but not if I have to be lied to. If we did it like our government we would be locked up.

I don't think that...but then, I'm not really a Republican. What I DO feel though, is that those who talk about simply pulling out before we're done in Iraq are doing a disservice to the soldiers.
Most of them feel that those who say we need to execute an IMMEDIATE pullout just don't have faith in our service-people. That offends them.
I appreciate your service, I really do. I just wish that more people would have faith in the men and women who serve now. They will do what we sent them to do, so long as we allow it. They're capable.
By saying that the war needs to end NOW, most people take that to mean that you believe we're losing. If we're losing, it means that our soldiers AREN'T capable. The best way of supporting them is to have faith in them.
You of all people should know this. Let them do their job. Please.
Remember Vietnam...58,000 brave men (and a few women) gave their lives in vain because Americans didn't have faith in them. Three million innocent people were executed throughout Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam, because Americans didn't have faith in our soldiers. Our military was crippled when dealing with terrorism in the early 80s, because of Vietnam.
We should have learned our lesson by now.
The ONLY thing holding terrorism at bay right now is our soldiers. If we don't allow them to do their job...we lose. We ALL lose.
I don't want that, and I don't think any sane person wants that.
About 2500 soldiers have given their lives for this endeavor. Do we want them all to be in vain?
