Pacific Ocean between Midway Island and the Phillipean Islands. Small volcanic Island chain on the edge of the Mariana trench, the deepest ocean in the world. Guam is a US territory located in the southern part of the island chain, along with Tinian, Rota, and other islands. This Island chain is used by the US as a military staging area for both the Air Force and the US Navy, who has a nuclear submarine base there. Japaneese citizens consider these islands a tourist attraction like we consider the Hawaiian Islands. The indiginous population are primarily Catholics of Phillippean, Spanish, and Japaneese desent. The islands were used by both the Japaneese and the Americans during WWII and is a favorite diving location because of all of the sunken WWII naval vessels and downed aircraft in the area. i lived on Guam for three years.
