I agree somewhat that most of the "renegade" countries and groups would like to reach a solution through diplomacy.
Unfortunately, the Republicans need an "axis of evil" to blame for their failures abroad.

War is inevitable when diplomacy fails. It is a last resort.
Some people just don't want to talk. North Korea didn't stop anything. Iran is not stopping. Hussein wasn't giving in when it was all talk. Hitler would not have given in.
Yes, in a perfect world, talking would be better. But it's not a perfect world. Do you honestly think that anyone really WANTS war? Of course they don't.
Remember the opening lines to Civil War by Guns n Roses?
"What we've got here is...failure to communicate.
Some men, you just can't reach...
so you get what we had here last week.
Which is the way he wants it...
well, he gets it.
And I don't like it, any more than you men."
No one wants war...but it happens. There are some that no amount of communication will work on.

You cannot talk to terrorists who want to destroy freedom
and the United States and civillization. North Korea did not stop any of their nuclear activities when we were talking to them.

We talked to Saddam and he blockaded the inspectors and even threatened them.
We talked to China and they threatened to sink California. As pleasurable that is to some Americans, it is a state...
We talked to Iran and they told us to take a hike.
We talked to N. Korea and they demanded a hell of a lot of supplies in order to slow down, not stop the nuclear research.
How do you talk to a Muslim Radical that wants to cut your head off?
Talking helps in some cases. Not many anymore, but some.

Even if that statement is correct, then why didn't the talks work? We try talking first, but when that does not work, we move on
Back in the 70's there was this famous hostage situation involving some Americans. Johnson, our president at the time, went and talked to the terrorists to try and negotiate. The terrorists basically said, "screw you". Since then, it shows talking to a terrorist, proves completely futile

Picture this.. a rational person sititng doen with someone that their only reason for living is dying and taking as many "infidels" with them. Would you keep an eye on their every move. Let them answer their phone??? Truth is 100% they are there to kill you, not to talk.

I think US proved very clear that it can't have negotiation with a country without threatening them...We saw what happened with the negotiations with Iran...So it's because US doesn't know anymore how they should negotiate from an equal position.they started the negotiations with Iran from the idea that US is better so Iran must listen to what it says...They think that US knows better then the ones that run the country what is good for their country...So if they don't accept US solutions they are enemy...
Now,Iran is negotiating with the EU and things are going very well...and I don't see no one from the EU threatening Iran with sanctions or with a military intervention...
And ,as far as I know,N korea didn't stop their nuclear research...
