how do you start writing a song and its music? do you start with the words, or the music?

In some cases, I get the words down first and worry about the tune later

other times, a tune manifests itself and i try to figure out what words would work best in it

It's easier to start with the words because you can usually think of musical arrangement to go with it. In other words it's a lot harder to think up rhyming words and on must songs these days you hardly notice the music in the background.

Whatever comes first in your head really. Words is probably best for giving structure to a song, then you can back it up with a kickass tune. I'm probably wrong, but my take on it is thati If you want people to listen to the words, write these first, if you want people to enjoy the melodies etc, then add the words later.

well it depends. you see you could either get the words first then decide with whatever is best for the title, but for me I like to come up with the title first. I've written some songs, but there not on the radio or anything. and infact NOBODY sings them! ha! well i hope that answers your question.
