i do this regularly, i also regularly put baby wipes or remote controls in the fridge, or put the rubbish in my pocket and the money in the bin.
Is this because i am losing my mind or is it because i had 4 children and my brain is fried?

I call it a "Stupid Attack," and I am grateful to experience them every now and then... it makes me feel sooooooo normal... because everyone has them, too. It means that you are overly preoccupied with other thoughts subconsciously, or that you're rushed and trying to get to what you have to do next. Relax. It's normal. Welcome to the real world of everyday people! (Learn to laugh when it happens and share it with others and you'll see it happens to them, too).

I remember once many years ago, I couldn't find a particular pipe that I used whenever I was typing (back in the 70s) and I was ranting and carrying on... my then wife, bless her gentle soul, had a habit of putting things away and keeping the apartment as neat, tidy, clean and orderly as a museum and I was blaming her for not leaving things where I leave them (so I can find them; I had over 60 pipes). She came to me, stood in front of me and asked, "WHICH pipe are you looking for?" I explained that it was the half-bent Brier with the notch for the thumb for rekindling, it was called the "Author"... and all of a sudden, she smiled and said, "WHAT is that in your mouth?" Need I tell you how embarrassed I was?

So, knowing that YOU are also going through this, let me extend a "Thank You" for making ME feel normal!

Hi.. this is all fine, unless it becomes a problem for you, and your unable to laugh it off. I once had to pull over whilst driving, having forgotten where i was going, why i was going, and where i was, i had traveled this hundred mile journey some hundred times befor, and nothing looked familiar. i had to call the office, to find out what was going on......they mentioned the £5000 i should have.... so yeah, if it gets bad, u need to look into it. otherwise, who cares if you put the remote in the fridge, or odd shoes on, just means your minds relaxed, about things that dont really matter that much

Only all my life....and without mind-altering substances. Means you are juggling many, many things in your mind all at the same time.

I generally try and go back to where I was standing when I set out on my trek to the other room, sometimes am able to come up with the idea again. Sometimes it is lost forever.

Good sleep hygeine seems to make the ability to juggle all the things somewhat better. Since you mentioned baby wipes, sleep deprivation may be a big part of it.

too many questions for 2 points.. I'll just answer your first question....
Yes I've often walked into a room and just stood there cause I didn't remember why or what I wanted to do there! This happens at the
Grocery Store too.. I go there and forget why I went! Even when I make a grocery list I often forget to take the list with me! Someone should invent a reminder tape that clips to ones belt!

I don't think your brain is fried (yet). Just a little tired having to deal with 4 kids.
Farm them all out to friends for a day & pamper yourself. Not guilt - just do it.
Have a long bubble bath, read a while, stay in bed until 11am, don't get dressed until 3pm.
Do whatever you want, eat whatever you fancy.
Forget anyone else in the world exists. You will feel great - I promise.

Oh yes! I did it earlier today - walked into the bedroom and had absolutely no idea why i was there... I think more women than men do this. Because women are so good at multi-tasking they are always thinking at least two steps ahead if themselves! So we're not brain-fried, it's just that our brains are too busy thiking about a million and one things all the time!

Oh honey dont feel bad it happens to us all. I do things like that all the time. I've been looking for some thing and look down and it will be in my hand. When i used to smoke i would have a cig in my mouth and start to lite another one. I've put my dish cloth in the fridge, etc.... just laugh it off, its a part of "life" lol.

Hahaha. each and all of the time. each and every time I walk right into a room to get something, I continually finally end up forgetting and that i gets something else, yet when I pass away the room, I remembered why I went in there and that i'd desire to pass back contained in the room to get notwithstanding i mandatory.

Hi,
Don't worry about it. Ive found it to be a symptom of an age thing.
often stare into a kitchen cupboard and go "what the hell was I looking for?"
Or going to meet someone, to discover that I am in the wrong restaurant,
I've even boarded the wrong plane to the wrong country.
No, I'm not daft, but it seems that with other stuff in your mind, a bit of mental confusion can easilly creep in
All the best,
Bob the er......Boat

I understand, it happens to me a lot as well. It has nothing to do with age or kids, cos I'm just 17 and (happily) doesn't have any kids yet.
Neither are you loosing your mind, Einstein also had this problem(only worse).

The best way to counter the problem is thinking about what youre doing.
