"In July, India's Medical Association began investigating three doctors who appeared on television to promote their amputation services, specifically to beggars, whose income prospects grew with the more sympathy they engender. One doctor said he would remove a leg below the knee, leaving it fairly easy to fit a prosthetic, for the equivalent of about $200."

I have some problems with the veracity and believability of this so-called news story. Does not seem to me that beggars have much access to television.

Can any of our friends in India confirm or deny this?

Chuck Shephard is usually pretty good at verifying his stories. I think it is probably true. Unethical, but true.
